By default, a bay area Desi is an IT professional! Malayalees are no exception! For example, whether it is Dublin, San Ramon, Pleasanton or Danville, if you go for a birthday party, 75% of the folks you meet would be working in IT. During introductions, "Are you a programmer?" is the default question to an average Indian in US :)
